Cache Creek, Fisher
Farm Aug. 1st report
Arriving Sunday July 31 just past 10 am, there was a very
festive scene at Fischer’s camping area. Many motor homes and even
more tents were scattered everywhere amid beautiful shade trees,
fenced-in sheep and horses with nearby slow-moving river great for
swimming. Many obviously had arrived Saturday for an extra day of
camping at this lovely spot. Festive decorations were up and the very
large Swiss flag was a hit for kids to run through. Tables were set up
and ready for the crowd, so much effort had already been done by the
early arrivals. The PA system was set-up quickly and Swiss tunes
floated through the site.
The Schutzenhaus was also set up
and the sighting in of rifles was underway just before noon.
Kari Wyssen, visiting from Adelboden with his family, was a
great help and his keen eyesight got the rifles shooting “right
on”! Soon the shooting started and with four competitors at a
time, we had over forty keen shooters with ages from 4 to over
70...what a keen bunch. By 4 pm the shooting wrapped up. The
event was made possible with tremendous help from many. Roger
Halti, Elisabeth Nyfeler, and Barb Klopfenstein were key people.
Too many to mention helped with range safety, target service and
of course skilled coaching!
Soon Erwin Nyfeler and his chef’s team got the
dinner ready and by 5:30 pm grilled wurstels and a smorgasbord of delicious
salads and many other dishes made up a great dinner. Helena Hasler welcomed
everyone and introduced the Deputy Consul of Switzerland, Silvia Gerber, and
Christophe. Silvia addressed the Fest crowd with greetings from the Consulate.
The official speech of the Bundespresidentin was played on CD. Al Klopfenstein
welcomed everyone with a tune on the alphorn and continued with the shooting
presentations. Happy winners and all participants got rewarded with a draw
prize.
Erwin Nyfeler announced the soccer challenge and
soon young and old were chasing the ball all over the field with lots of grunts
and cheers. Fred Hefti also had his alphorn along and played tunes and a duet
with Al. It was a very lively gathering with many families and lots of kids.
Once darkness set in, the lampions appeared. The youngsters paraded lampions of
many different colours and shapes around the guests as Al accompanied them with
the alphorn. It was a delight to watch and such a great memory for the children.
Dancing started with glow sticks in the air; it was a magical scene. Later on,
the raclette grill was fired up and people lined up already forgetting the
dinner they had eaten. Eventually people drifted off to bed but a few keen party
types kept things going long into the night with lots of laughter.
By sun-up, the traditional pot luck breakfast got
under way and much chatting and story swapping went on. Soon some people
departed and with a joint effort, the short cleanup got everything ship shape.
The Fischer’s were presented with a gift from the Interior Swiss Club for their
generous hosting of this annual event. Many thanks to Fischer’s and all
participants, helpers and organizers, who made this year’s celebration a great
success.

Bowling Tournament April 3,
2011
Sunday April 3, 2011
J Lanes, Salmon Arm
April 3rd, 2011 will go down as a great day in Salmon Arm,
bowling with the Swiss. The Kamloops group were minimally
represented but, since we were asked to give a commentary, we
are privileged to do so. The bowling games were great fun with
talents, we did not know about, coming to the surface. One in
particular was Peter Quas who bowled a once in a lifetime
three games of over two hundred pins.
The Salmon Arms group were so hospitable that one wishes we
could always have our yearly bowling function in their
facilities. The luncheon was held at the Intermission
Restaurant - Sunwave Centre, with everyone leaving very well
nourished and in good humor. The luncheon was fabulous with
food varieties to please everyone. Presentations were made by
Peter Wyss of the Salmon Arm Swiss group. The following
sponsors made certain that no one went home empty handed. So
thank you to:
Sun Valley Source for Sports
Voetts Coffee
Peter's Pasta
Helena Hairdesign
Erwin's Fine Baking
Kingsway Laundry
Thanks
as well for the numerous prizes donated by our members
Daniel Wyss took the show by placing third amongst the men. He
was awesome to watch again and it
was wonderful to see such a young man with such bowling
talents. We must all learn from him and practise, practise,
practise until we meet again next year. We wish everyone a
great summer.

Lilly sent us some photos from a concert in Vernon.
The concert on Sunday March 6 was
organized by the Okanagan Symphony Orchestra and they invited
William Hopson to perform with them. He is involved with the
Calgary Heimattreu Jodelklub, speaks Schwyzerdeutsch and is just a
great person.
We all enjoyed this concert and surprisingly
there were a lot of Swiss.
