Winter Bowling, Grand Finale, 2009, It was almost too nice a spring day to spend inside, but nobody could have stopped the bowling enthusiasts from crowding through the doors of the Falcon Lane Bowling Alley for the traditional season-end bowling tournament of the ISC on 22nd March. The number of participants was somewhat smaller because several of the strong bowlers could not take part either due to health problems or other commitments. The Zwinglis and the Jotterands were vacationing in exotic, warm places (we feel so sorry for you!). Nevertheless, the cheerful mood energized participants as well as the few unfortunate spectators who soon wished they could join the happy bowlers. Jerold and his staff were well prepared and had the facility ready for us early enough to enable bowlers to throw a few practice shots before the actual contest started. They had also done improvements to the facility most importantly redone all the lanes, replaced all the bowling balls, etc. during the summer months of 2008, which helped some lucky participants with their scores. Others felt that if I could have gotten the results I had last week I would have done a lot better, but none of that could spoil the overall good mood. Elisabeth Nyfeler had organized lunch for the crowd at the nearby Malibu restaurant, generously donated again by the club. Lively discussions took place as friends rehashed some of their better shots and each other's scores. After the hearty soup and sandwiches Helena Hasler and Lisa Arnold announced the rankings and as in the years before, there were prices for each participant. Congratulations go to the winners of each category: Juniors Tony Schilter Ladies Karin Wasser Men Erwin Nyfeler Our
president Lilly Senn thanked in the name of the club the generous
sponsors who donated prices for the event. They are:
Thanks also go to the people who organized and helped to make this a successful bowling tournament: Helena Hasler for the Kamloops group, Lisa Arnold for the Vernon group, Andy Zust for the Salmon Arm group. David Wu for collecting the scores in Vernon, Kurt Zwingli and Joe Ribary in Kamloops, Joe and Antoinette for the final scores, and Elisabeth Nyfeler for organizing the luncheon. We missed Sonja and Albert Sirges as Albert had an accident, Rose and Kaspar Odermatt due to Kaspar's eye problems, David and Gio Wu because Gio is in bed with the flu, and Susanne Haldi who suffered from a severe migraine attack. We wish them all a speedy recovery. A special THANK YOU once again to all the enthusiastic participants wo make the practice sessions so much fun and the tournament such a pleasant social event! We look forward to seeing all of you again next year. Joe Ribary / March 25, 2008 Rankings
